FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) combines a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) that runs on fuel with an electric motor and battery. The powertrain typically uses battery power first, then switches to the ICE when the battery reaches a minimum state of charge. Different versions exist, but most start off with the electric motor and switch to the gas engine. Each type of technology presents its own features. However, these electrified vehicles vary in performance, driving experience and the overall ownership experience. A Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) runs solely on electricity.

You can charge an EV at home using a Level 1 or Level 2 charger.

Stellantis EVs/PHEVs come equipped with a portable Level 1 charging cord to plug into a 120-volt, grounded wall socket, so no additional charging equipment is required. While this is the simplest method, it takes the most time to charge a battery, about 12-14 hours to charge a depleted battery.

Level 2 charging requires purchase and installation of a charging unit in a home. It uses a 240-volt electrical service (typical in a residential setting, for example a clothes dryer outlet), should always be installed by a licensed electrician. Stellantis partners with trusted vendors to facilitate scheduling and installation of your customers' Level 2 residential chargers. Explore available chargers here.

You can also charge at public charging stations using a Level 2 or DC fast charging. Public charging stations can be easily found on the Mopar.com Owner Site.

Not all EVs are compatible with every type of charging station. Most EVs can charge at Level 2 stations, but compatibility with DC Fast Chargers varies. It's essential to know your EV's capabilities and the type of charging stations it can use. This also applies to PHEVs as well, such as the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. Check your owners manual for your vehicle's charging compatibility and the Free2move Charge App for charging station information.

Charging times vary depending on the type of charging station, your EV's battery capacity, and its current state of charge. Level 2 chargers can charge a typical EV in 4-8 hours. DC Fast Chargers can provide significant charge in under an hour.

Some charging networks require users to create an account or purchase a membership to access their stations, while others allow ad-hoc payments through mobile apps or credit cards. Using the Free2move Charge app will help you manage payment at multiple charging networks and also help keep track of charging history.

As a general rule, EV drivers tend to save about 50% on fuel costs compared to gas-powered vehicles. Based on current national averages, charging an EV averages 3-4 cents per mile, compared with 5-30 cents per mile for gasoline. This assumes home charging as public charging adds additional fees. Owners can generally save by charging at home overnight due to lower off-peak rates. Public charging stations will often charge fees, and electricity rates may vary across the country.

The electric range suffers in cold weather due to the need for more energy from the battery for the heating systems and in hot weather due to the heavier load on the air conditioning system. Batteries are often less efficient at low or high temperatures. One way to maximize your range during the winter season is to keep your vehicle fully charged when possible. To maximize the battery charge, consider gradual accelerations when possible.

A kilowatt (kW) is a unit of power and indicates how quickly energy can be provided. Higher kilowatts = faster charging. A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy and indicates how much your battery has been charged. More kilowatt-hours received = more range added to your vehicle during a charging session.

Brought to you by one of the world’s leading automakers, Free2move Charge makes it easier to always be charged. EV owners can charge at home with a Level 2 charging station and on the go with the Free2move Charge app - it helps you find, activate and pay for charging all in one place.
