If you notice streaks on your windshield, your wiper blades may need cleaning. Wipe them down with a clean rag dipped in hot, soapy water and rinse the soap away. Apply rubbing alcohol to the edge of the blades; it will evaporate quickly, leaving a clean, dry finish.
You may notice your wiper blades “chattering”, or moving jerkily along your windshield. This can indicate a buildup of dirt, grime or residue on your windshield, preventing the wiper blades from making full contact. Clean your windshield thoroughly and give your wiper blades a wipedown as well. If the problem persists, the issue may stem from a bent wiper arm.
There are a few signs that your wiper blades need to be replaced. Examine your wipers for signs of wear such as tears in the blade, ragged edges, a loss of flexibility in the rubber or bends or cracks in the wiper arm or blade. All these issues prevent your wiper blades from making full contact with your windshield, which can limit your visibility.
